Prince henry - the navigator

Henry was a Portuguese royal prince who was fifth child of the Portuguese king John I.
He had 10 siblings, mother who was Philippa of Lancaster and father who was King John I.
People called him 'Henry the navigator'. He was a explorer and patron and traveled around Africa's west coast with large ships. Before Henry, no one wanted to sail Africa's west coast because they thought that there were sea monsters and boiling water near the equator.
Henry was well known for spreading the Christianity, winning battles against Muslims and finding new trade routes.
1418, Henry started the first school for oceanic navigation at Segres which is located in Portugal. His school sent 14 expeditions into the "Sea of Darkness"
In 1441, Henry the navigator got involved with trading slaves.
In 1434, Gil Eannes sailed to Canary Islands and Cape Bojador. He worked in Prince Henry's household.
In 1445, Henry sent Alvise da Cadamosto who was a Italian navigator. He wanted to trade with Africans but it was unsuccessful.
In 1458, Diogo Gomes sailed to Cape Palmas. When the expedition finished and came back, Prince Henry died in 1460.
